Keith and Maggie Bell, who own Crook Hall, one of Durham's oldest houses, are enlisting the help of local children for an Art in the Garden exhibition.

Drawing on European street theatre, the children will act as living statues during the event.

Mr and Mrs Bell have also invited sculptor David Gross to exhibit some of his large, carved wooden and steel structures in the garden.

Alnwick artist Priscilla Day has agreed to spend a week demonstrating her work transforming junk. Marlene Grey completes the line-up, demonstrating the craft of calligraphy in the medieval hall.

The event will run throughout August and is open from 1pm to 5pm every day except Saturdays.

Admission costs £3.80 for adults, £3 for concessions, and £9.80 for families.
