KOREA were the winners of Teesside's mini-World Cup tournament held last week.
Twenty teams of year five and six children from primary schools across Teesside took part in the event at Southlands Leisure Centre, Middlesbrough, with each adopting the name of a team from this year's World Cup.
Middlesbrough's Pallister Park Primary School, playing as Korea won, beating Crooksbarn Primary School, Norton, playing as Poland, 1-0 in a nail-biting final.
Organiser Gary Hamilton, from the leisure centre, said: "All the children who took part in the competition were a credit to their schools. Even the wet conditions didn't dampen their enthusiasm."
To keep youngsters up to scratch during the summer holiday, the leisure centre is running a number of coaching sessions.
Football coaching is being offered for five to 11-year-olds from 10.30am to 12.30pm on Thursdays, starting on Thursday, for six weeks. Sessions cost £2.40 for members and £2.85 for non-members.
