A SERIES of seminars to educate businesses on safe storage in the oil industry are to be held by the Environment Agency.
The agency receives more calls about incidents of oil pollution than any other substance and hopes to educate businesses about better storage and management practices to reduce the problem.
The two-hour seminars are free and aimed at those who will be affected by new oil storage rules brought in last year.
New minimum standards for oil storage at industrial, commercial and institutional sites were set up by the 2001 Control of Pollution regulations, and apply to all types of oil used for heating, lubrication and power.
The regulations are designed to raise standards and halve the number of spillages in the next three years.
Seminars are being held on Wednesday, July 31, at the Newcastle Environment Agency, August 7 at York Quality Hotel, and August 8 at Leeds Queens Hotel.
