A PENSIONER died after suffering a heart attack at the wheel of his car, an inquest heard yesterday.
Norman Jopling, 65, of Emsworth Drive, Eaglescliffe, near Stockton, had a history of heart disease, Teesside Coroner's Court heard.
On November 17, 2000, he was driving near his home when he collapsed at the wheel, and his car collided with two cars coming in the opposite direction.
He was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees, in Stockton, but was pronounced dead soon after arrival.
Pathologist Dr Christopher Rettman told the court that Mr Jopling sustained no injuries in the crash.
Teesside Deputy Coroner Gordon Hetherington, recording a verdict of death by natural causes, said: "I think, perhaps, the family can take some comfort from the fact that he probably knew very little about the whole affair.
