A BUSY school route in Hartlepool is now safer for pedestrians thanks to a new project.
Jutland Road is a shopping area used by parents and children on their way to Golden Flatts Primary School.
After concerns were raised about pedestrian safety, the Owton Rossmere Partnership implemented a range of traffic calming measures in the road.
These included raised stretches of road at the junction of Ormesby Road and Seaton Lane, two speed humps with road markings, and new traffic signs.
The £40,000 scheme was financed by government grants.
Paul Watson, Hartlepool Borough Council's road safety officer, said: "By cutting traffic speeds these improvements should make this very busy stretch of road safer for pedestrians and drivers.
"We also hope that by creating a safer area for pedestrians, more people will be encouraged to walk rather than drive, thereby easing traffic congestion."
