POLICE are still hunting arsonists who burnt down a £250,000 home, despite a £25,000 reward for information.
Peterlee detectives say they are puzzled and disappointed by the poor response to the appeal for information about a burglary and fire at The Mount, half a mile south of Blackhall Rocks, east Durham.
The building, dating from 1926, which was home to the Sykes family, was destroyed in the blaze on July 8.
Items including antique clocks, Royal Doulton figurines, crystal trays and pewter plates were stolen during the raid.
Following the incident, the Sykes family, who run a motorbike shop in Horden, offered a reward of £25,000 for information leading to the recovery of the property and the arrest of those responsible.
They have put up posters outside The Mount and throughout Horden and Blackhall, and plan to distribute more in Hartlepool and Sunderland.
Detective Constable Brian Roberts, of Peterlee CID, said: "The lack of interest has been disappointing to say the least. We have had a few calls but the information provided has been very limited.
"Nevertheless, various lines of inquiry are being actively pursued and we remain optimistic of getting a significant breakthrough."
Police are considering the possibility that those responsible may hold a personal or business grudge against the family.
Anyone with information should ring the police on 0191-586 2621 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
