TWO local servicemen will be back on home turf for an airshow this weekend.

Sergeant Steve Forster and Corporal Ritchie Evans, both from Darlington, will return to the North-East for the Sunderland International Airshow, on Saturday and Sunday.

They will be busy on the ground ensuring that everything runs smoothly when the RAF Falcons parachute team drops in.

Cpl Evans is a rigger with the Falcons and has the important task of servicing all the parachutes, while Sgt Forster will be based in the drop zone and has responsibility for guiding the parachutists in by lighting flares and marking out a cross.

Sgt Forster, a former pupil at Hummersknott School, has been with the RAF since he was 18.

He said: "The RAF Falcons will be involved in many major airshows across Europe this summer, but, for me, the Sunderland International Airshow will be particularly special because it means a return to my native North-East."

The Falcons have attended all 14 of the Sunderland International Airshows, and this year's display will form part of a programme that also includes The Red Arrows, the Royal Jordanian Falcons and the Blue Eagles helicopter display team.
