A DISTRESSED man was helped to shore by police and coastguards after entering the sea at Redcar on Monday evening.
Rescue workers feared the young man was suicidal after he was spotted on the rocks. Two lifeboats attended the scene, at 10pm, and the man was coaxed out of the water. He is believed to have been involved in a domestic dispute in King Street.
BONFIRE SHOW: Stunning photographs of last year's Skinningrove bonfire go on display at the Margrove Heritage Centre, near Guisborough, on Sunday. The pictures, taken by photographer Ian Macdonald and members of the community, form an exhibition which will run until September 29. A booklet containing a variety of images from the bonfire is also available, priced £3.95.
SEWER WORKS: There will be temporary traffic signals for five weeks on Brotton Road, Carlin How, east Cleveland, while work on a sewer is carried out.
CIRCUS SKILLS: People can have a go at juggling, stilt and tightrope walking, and unicycle riding at a circus skills workshop on Sunday. The event, at Saltburn Valley Woodlands Centre, from 1pm to 4pm, is free. For details, call (01287) 622408.
BRIDGE CLOSED: Blacks Bridge, in Redcar Road, Marske, will be closed this and next weekend while bridge installation work is carried out by Redcar and Cleveland Council.
ORGAN CONCERT: A concert featuring organist Simon Patterson will take place at the James Finegan Municipal Hall, in Fabian Road, Eston, on Sunday, August 11. Admission to the concert, at 2.30pm, is £2.50/£1.50 concessions.
SUMMER FETE: A fete will take place in the grounds of St John's Church, South Bank, Middlesbrough, on Saturday, August 3. Visitors to the event, which begins at 1pm, can enter a £100 prize draw.
