ROADWORKS could mean delays for drivers travelling through Bishop Auckland on Sunday. One side of Bob Hardisty Drive, between Newton Cap viaduct and the bus station roundabout, will be closed for eight hours while workmen lay 50 metres of anti-skid surface.
Motorists are being advised to avoid the area until teatime. The work can only be done in dry weather and will be postponed if it rains.
DRIVING CHARGE: Brian Robson, of Risdale Street, Darlington, will appear at Darlington Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, August 6, after his case was adjourned. He is accused of driving a car while disqualified.
PLAY SCHEME: The Dolphin Centre play scheme will be at West Green, Heighington, tomorrow and every Friday, from 2pm to 4pm, during the school holidays. If the weather is wet it will be held in the village hall.
CAR STOLEN: A Peugeot car, registration J452 RWK, stolen from Waskerley Walk, Newton Aycliffe, on Monday night, was found burned out in Croxdale.
TOOLS TAKEN: A Stihl saw and Paintedon saw, worth £350, were stolen from a Ford Iveco van in Dale Street, Chilton, at about 2pm on Tuesday.
RACE NIGHT: Glaxo Sports and Social Club, Barnard Castle, is hosting a race night organised by Glaxo Football Club, tomorrow, at 7pm. Tickets are available from the club.
DANCE TIME: Middleton Old Time Dance Club is holding a dance at the Masonic Hall, Middleton-in-Teesdale, tomorrow, at 7.30pm.
TABLE-TOP SALE: A table-top sale will be held in the parish hall, Newgate, Barnard Castle, on Saturday, from 9.30am to 3.30pm.
CAMP MEETING: Egglestone Methodist Chapel is holding a camp meeting on Sunday, at 2.30pm. The preacher will be Wilf Capstick and soloist James Law.
PLANNING MEETING: A meeting of Sedgefield Borough Council's development control committee will be held in the council offices, Green Lane, Spennymoor, tomorrow, at 10am.
CHURCH SALE: There will be a table-top sale in St Mary's Church Hall, Barnard Castle, on Saturday, between 9.30am and 3.30pm, in aid of church funds.
CHARITY APPEAL: An appeal at Sedgefield's St Edmund's Church raised £25 for the Church Housing Trust.
