Newcastle and Interbrew's Pro-Am Invitation Snooker competition at Richardson and Westgarth Sports and Social Club was held on July 23.
Peter Lines (Leeds) won the Newcastle and Interview UK Pro-Am Snooker Invitation against Michael Rhodes (Spennymoor) 6-2. The tournament that has now become possibly the top pro-am tournament in the North with the promise of more sponsorship after the tremendous success of this year's tournament, it's future looks assured.
This is not surprising with the quality of players is has attracted and an unprecedented 11 centuries made during this tournament.
A capacity audience watched the final with Michael Rhodes going into an early 2-0 lead helped with a 56 break, but Lines hit back with breaks of 40 and 46 to go into a 3-1 lead. He then made a magnificent 130 break to lead 4-1 at the interval and snatch the highest break prize of £100 from Mike Dunn who had led from day one with 127 break.
Rhodes got quickly into his stride to close this gap to 4-2 with a break of 68 only for Lines to stretch his lead to 5-2 and then win this title with a 57 break.
Tom Docherty of Interbrew UK presented the prizes to the winners and promised sponsorship for the foreseeable future. All round it has been a snooker feast for the five weeks of the tournament attracting spectators from Tyneside and Teesside as well as Hartlepool.
The referee, Terry Riley, recently acquired his international badge.
