A PROFOUNDLY deaf student has received a top award from her college for her success in her studies.
Sandra Dunn, 18, from Chester-le-Street, has been presented with an award in recognition of her dedication to her NVQ Level 2 Beauty Therapy course at Newcastle College and for overcoming difficult circumstances.
After leaving the Northern Counties School for the Deaf, Sandra became the first person in her year to successfully complete the NVQ Level 2 IT course, before progressing to NVQ Level 2 Beauty Therapy course and moving on to an NVQ Level 3. Sandra's support worker at college, Julia Carr, said: "I've worked with Sandra for two years and she is an excellent, conscientious student and a lovely girl. She has a great sense of humour and an excellent attitude to work. I've really enjoyed my time with her."
