AN annual carnival which was badly affected by the foot-and-mouth crisis last summer is back to full strength.
Middleton-in-Teesdale Carnival was nearly cancelled last year because of the epidemic.
This year, organisers have promised a full list of attractions at the carnival, which begins next Wednesday with a car treasure hunt at 6.30pm and a cycling proficiency event in the primary school playground next Thursday, at 7pm.
The carnival queen will be crowned on Friday, at the Mechanics' Institute, at 7pm, followed by a fell race which visitors can enter just before it begins at 7.15pm.
On Saturday, August 3, the floats and fancy dress walkers will leave Alston Road Garage at 1pm, and there will be a range of events on the school field from 1.30pm.
Attractions include a pet show, parachute display, jazz bands, stalls activities for children, and a tombola.
A duck race will be held on the Sunday, from Tees Bridge at 10am. Anyone wishing to take part can purchase a duck from C & A newsagent, from 9.30am on the day.
Programmes for the carnival are available from the post office, C & A newsagent and other village shops.
