A PRACTICAL guide to making building projects more efficient is launched next week.
The Building in Sustainability guide is aimed at anyone planning a building project - from a single house to a 300-home estate or land reclamation project.
It explains the concept of environmentally-friendly buildings with practical advice.
The guide has been produced by a regional partnership of companies, developers, councils and agencies led by Durham County Council.
Phil Hughes, chairman of the Sustaine agency and board member of One NorthEast, said: "Sustainability must be a major priority in planning any new developments and this guide gives practical advice on how to reduce energy loss, waste and pollution."
Chris Tunstall, Durham County Council's director of environment and technical services, said: "The end result should be developments that use fewer of the earth's finite resources and put out less pollution into the air and water that we all have to share."
The guide is available at county and district planning departments, from the county council on 0191-383 3646 or the website www.durham.gov.uk
