THE official naming ceremony for Redcar's new £87,000 lifeboat takes place tomorrow.
The ceremony begins at 1.45pm opposite the lifeboat station on the Esplanade.
The Atlantic 75 class lifeboat, called Leicester Challenge II, arrived in the town in November and has already carried out 22 rescue missions and helped 21 people.
It was funded by the Leicester branch of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) as was its predecessor, Leicester Challenge, which was used to save 114 lives in its 12 years at Redcar.
Caroline Corley, honorary secretary of Leicester RNLI, will hand over the lifeboat and it will be named by the branch chairman, Derrick Young.
The vessel will then be launched, weather permitting.
