HUNDREDS of teachers in North Yorkshire are to get laptop computers.
About 20 per cent of the county's 5,000 teachers are to benefit from a £1m county council initiative.
The laptops are to be bought and distributed by the local education authority. They will be owned by the schools and loaned to teachers.
About 700 laptops have already been given out in North Yorkshire.
Education spokesman Councillor Chris Metcalfe said: "This is the latest in a series of exciting and innovative developments for education in North Yorkshire. A key feature of this initiative is that headteachers will be given priority for the laptops."
He said that headteachers were the key to ensuring that a school has an effective information and computer technology strategy.
