PUBLIC buildings in Darlington are in a significantly better condition than those of most other local authorities.
Its libraries, crematorium, sports centres, offices and administrative buildings are in good condition, John Buxton, director of development and environment, told Darlington Borough Council's cabinet.
In only nine per cent of cases was there a need for costly maintenance work.
The survey, which does not include schools or housing, was part of a policy document which will influence the Government's financial support for individual authorities next year.
Mr Buxton said: "Our property, in terms of its condition, is significantly better than other authorities."
The cabinet approved the council's capital strategy and asset management plan.
