CHANTELLE Handy could barely bounce a ball six months ago - but following intensive training the sky is the limit as she prepares to represent her country in basketball.
Chantelle, 15, of Shotley Bridge, will this weekend play for England under-16 basketball team in the European Championship qualifiers in Peterlee.
Chantelle started playing at school, before going on to play with the Tyne and Wear under 16s.
A friend's father suggested she join them for coaching with the English cadets. She has since travelled the country, as well as playing in Portugal and Luxembourg, after which she was selected to represent England in the European qualifiers.
Chantelle said: "My perception of the game has changed a lot. At first it was a bit of a knock-around, but now I am enjoying the game a lot more. And now because I am at a higher level I am taking it quite seriously and would like to take it further."
Assistant England cadets coach Nick Ibberson said: "She is very talented and has the potential to go further - possibly to the highest level of the game."
