The winners of the 2001 Peugeot Tennis Mixed Doubles Tournament, Ian and Tracy Spears from Stockton on Tees, are setting their sights on a new challenge by entering the 2002 Peugeot Inter-Club Tennis Challenge.
Playing for Yarm Tennis Club they will be amongst 152 people from the North East region who will take part in the newly named Peugeot Inter-Club Tennis Challenge.
On the way to winning last year's Peugeot Tennis Tournament they picked up prizes including: Peugeot bikes, free Coaching at David Lloyd Leisure (Teeside), Wilson tennis gear, a trip to La Manga Club, Spain, for the finals, and also the use of a Peugeot 307 for a year.
Reflecting on last year's win and prizes , Ian said: "We both loved the trip to La Manga Club. Steve Harris from Peugeot, and all the team looked after us and made it an unforgettable experience. The prizes are great. They make the competition really worth entering."
In 2002 Peugeot has become involved with the long established Inter-Club Tennis Challenge and has re-vamped the event through the introduction of Area and Regional finals in the build up to the Grand Final which will be held at La Manga Club, Spain - adding new levels of competition and challenge at a regional level to the summer-long tournament.
Over 1600 people from 403 clubs are taking part in the tournament nationwide. Each of the clubs play within a specified region and compete to make the Area, Regional and then Grand Finals. The overall winning team of four will each be given the use of a Peugeot car for three months and the winners and runner's up will win a Peugeot bicycle - Wilson tennis sports wear will also be given as prizes.
"Peugeot is delighted to be sponsoring the Inter-Club Tennis Challenge - we hope that through our involvement with this established event we can play a part in helping to develop the sport at local club level. As a way of injecting new energy into the event we have introduced a new format, which includes Area and Regional Finals in the run up to the Grand Finals. We believe this will give tennis enthusiasts added competition and incentive.
The goal being to get to each of the key stages," said Steve Harris, Manager - Marketing Partnerships, Peugeot Motor Company.
