ONE of the country's leading manufacturers of plastic bottles and casings for the soft drinks and toiletry markets is to close, with the loss of 46 jobs.
The chairman of Beaumont Industries of Scarborough, Richard Beaumont, said it had suffered losses for the past two years, despite efforts to make it viable.
"We have an excellent dedicated workforce that turns out good products on modern equipment," he said.
"But unfortunately, increasing raw material and manufacturing costs - combined with falling sales prices - have made it impossible to make a profit."
He added that the business, land and buildings at its premises, in Cayton Low Road, had been sold.
The Pindar Group, a major printing concern, has bought Beamont's land and buildings to use for expanding its mailing line and distribution process.
Mr Beaumont said that different parts of the business had been sold to companies in Sheffield and Manchester.
The firms are all involved in similar work to Beaumont Industries.
The business, which was started in 1966, first had problems two years ago, but it was until last year that it was forced to make 55 staff redundant.
