ORGAN RECITAL: Simon Fleming, of Penrith, will give an organ recital, featuring music by J S Bach and Gilbert and Sullivan, at St Margaret of Antioch Church, Crossgate, Durham, on Friday, August 16, starting at 7pm. The event is being held to raise money for the church's fabric.

HARVEST CONCERT: Sherburn Hill Methodist Church will hold a harvest concert, featuring Margaret Williams and Friends, on Saturday, October 5, starting at 6.30pm. Everybody is welcome.

COFFEE MORNING: St Cuthbert's Church, Shadforth, will hold a coffee morning on Saturday, September 7, at 10.30am, in Sherburn Hill Community Centre.

HOUSE PLAN: Durham City Council is being asked to grant planning permission for a detached house to be built on land next to Highfield House, Newby Lane, High Pittington.

GARDEN ART: Art in the Garden, an exhibition that includes living statues, sculptures and calligraphy, is being held at Crook Hall, Durham's medieval manor, every day in August, except Saturday, between 1pm and 5pm. Admission costs £3.80 for adults, £3 for concessions, and £9.80 for a family ticket.

HEALTH MEETING: A meeting of the Hartlepool and South Easington Community Health Council will be held on Thursday at the Council Chamber, Seaside Lane, Easington, from 2pm. Members of the public are welcome to attend.

BIRD FREED: Firefighters were called to help a bird caught in telephone wires in Shaw Street, Seaham, east Durham. They used a short extension ladder to free the creature, which flew away unharmed.
