Since reforming Spraire Lasses two years ago the team has gone from strength to strength.
In 2000-01 they were Tyne Tees Girls Under-10s League Champions. Rachel McKnight was awarded Player of the Year for the whole of the league from opposition manager's votes.
The Under-12s and Under-13s battled away but due to players leaving were unable to play many league games.
In season 2001-02 they were Tyne Tees North League Champions at Under-11 level by six clear points after losing one league game which was the week after winning the championship.
In the same season President League Cup winners after an exciting 4-3 victory over Reyrolles Kestrels, a semi-final 7-1 win against Newcastle and a great victory 4-1 against South Durham Royals in the final.
This game was 0-0 after 45 minutes. A brilliant hat trick from Laura Gowling and an excellent Jordan Atkinson goal gave the Lasses victory.
As last summer the team had only had four Under-13s players they team-up with Reyrolles Kestrels who had three players and after a poor start, losing two out of the first three games, the girls steadily improved.
Near the end of the season Spraire played Blyth in the Cup and lost 15-0 but the next week travelled to Blyth in the last league game needing a draw to be North League runners-up. Against all the odds the girls gained a 1-1 draw.
The club would like to thanks dedicated coach, John Boyd, for bringing the girls a long way last season.
