PLANS to refurbish a village hall are progressing well, but more donations are needed to complete the work.
A fundraising appeal for Bishop Middleham Village Hall was launched earlier this year.
The hall committee is trying to raise more than £85,000 to refurbish the building, which is used by several community groups. Plans include adding an extension for storage.
The committee has obtained several grants: £3,500 from the Awards for All Scheme, £9,200 from Northern Rock Building Society, £5,000 from Thompson's Quarry and £7,800 from Sedgefield Charities. The cash has allowed some work to go ahead, including building an entrance for disabled people and refurbishing the kitchen.
Committee secretary Glenys Rowe said: "We haven't got all we need by a long way, but we have made £25,500.
"We are very grateful for the money we have received because at least we're going to be able to do some of the work. But we are still working very very hard and we're hoping to get a lot more local businesses on board."
