A WOMAN who admitted being a charity cheat had acted under duress, a court heard yesterday.
Susan Howells, 34, pleaded guilty to stealing £90 belonging to St Michael's Hospice, Harrogate, by selling badges on its behalf but keeping the cash. She also admitted two offences of obtaining money by deception by telling people she was doing the Great North Run to aid the National Children's Home charity.
Howells, of Avenue Grove, Starbeck, Harrogate, was remanded on bail until September 5 so probation and psychiatric reports can be prepared.
