ABOUT 2,500 new jobs could be created over the next ten years through plans to expand Scarborough's business park at Eastfield.
The regional development agency, Yorkshire Forward, has already provisionally allocated £1.2m towards the expansion, but a further £700,00 is needed from the European Union's regional development fund. "The park is a flagship project and will have a significant impact on the local economy," said the chief executive of Scarborough Borough Council, John Trebble.
RECRUITS WANTED: An opportunity has arisen for supporters of Swaledale Festival to become more involved in its future. Since several members have recently left the area, the festival board is seeking replacements. The board meets about six times a year. GALLERY OPEN: An art gallery has opened in Richmond with the help of the Prince's Trust. Artist and graphic designer Darren Rees had financial help and business advice from the trust to set up Castle Gallery, New Road. Mr Rees stocks original works of art, including paintings, ceramics and glass, and offers interest-free deals over ten weeks. REUNION PLANNED: Pupils who were at Northallerton Grammar School 50 years ago are being rounded up for a reunion. A get-together is being organised at the town's Golden Lion hotel on Saturday, October 19, for people who joined the first form in September 1952. FAMINE AID: A Christian Aid coffee morning at 11 Emgate, Bedale, this week raised £470 for the Southern Africa famine appeal. Receipts from a Christian Aid cake stall at Bedale market next week will go to the same appeal.
CENTRE OPENING: The Mayor of Ripon, Councillor Bernard Bateman, will formally open The Smeaton Information Centre today. Named after John Smeaton, who designed Ripon Canal in 1766, it will provide interpretation facilities and supply new services for boaters.
