A thief who robbed a dying man is being hunted by police, it was revealed last night.
A bracelet, necklace and mobile phone were taken from 45-year-old John Clayton after he collapsed twice in Darlington town centre.
Mr Clayton, known as Michael, had been out drinking in the early hours of August 3 when he fell in Skinnergate.
He was taken to Darlington Memorial Hospital but discharged himself and was later found unconscious at the junction of Milbank Road and Woodland Road.
He was taken to Middlesbrough General Hospital where he died on Tuesday.
A post-mortem examination revealed he had suffered a fractured skull, which is thought to have happened when he fell the second time.
Mr Clayton, of Edmund Street, is believed to have been robbed while he was lying in Milbank Road.
