THREE colleagues who conquered the three highest peaks in Britain have raised more than £2,500 for charity in memory of their friend, who died from bowel cancer.
Steven Wilkinson, Andy Collinshaw and Steven Young set themselves a challenge of climbing Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in Cumbria and Snowdon in Wales within 24 hours. They achieved the feat with five minutes to spare.
For their efforts, the trio were presented with £1,000 by Darlington Mayor Councillor Doris Jones, from the Mayor's Charitable Trust.
All of the money raised from the expedition will go to the Beating Bowel Cancer Trust, in memory of the men's friend of ten years, Mark Godfrey, who died from bowel cancer at the age of 32.
The 24-hour target included travelling between the mountains in England, Scotland and Wales.
The trio were joined on the challenge by drivers Anthony Seaman and Peter Cook.
All five were present to receive the cheque from Coun Jones and her consort, Brian Jones.
