AN MP is calling for CCTV cameras to be installed at a parade of shops targeted by criminals.
Ashok Kumar, MP for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland, wants to see better security measures in place at Marton Road shops, in Marton, Middlesbrough.
He said: "There have recently been a number of attempted and actual robberies there and loutish behaviour is on the increase.
"I have met local shopkeepers and police and have attended a round table forum involving police and traders. The idea of CCTV cameras there met with unanimous support."
Dr Kumar has asked Middlesbrough Council to investigate ways of finding funding for the scheme.
Last week, the authority secured £70,000 in Government and European funding for improved security at a row of shops on the Easterside estate.
"I am really delighted that the council secured that funding," said Dr Kumar.
"I know from my surgeries that there has been a lot of concern about anti-social behaviour and crime there and the successful bid will go a long way to easing people's fears. I am now urging Middlesbrough Council to investigate a new bid and how it can be financed."
