A NETBALL camp is being run this week to encourage more youngsters to take up the sport.
Although there is a strong primary school netball league in Darlington and a league for older secondary school pupils, there is nothing for those in their early teens.
The Action Sport Netball group at the Eastbourne Sports Centre is running this week's camp.
Youngsters aged eight to 12 from schools throughout the town have been taking part to practice their skills.
Colin Chidzey, Darlington Borough Council's assistant sport development officer, said: "The primary school league play five-a-side netball, called Five Net, while the older pupils play seven-a-side, but there is nothing for those lower down in secondary school.
"This week, we want to help bridge the gap between the two games and get enough interest so we can set up another league for younger players."
Anyone interested in playing netball in the town is asked to call Eastbourne Sports Centre on (01325) 245574.
