A NEW shop has been opened on Tyneside by one of the region's family-run bakeries offering customers a full range of products, including a bargain bakery section.
Milligans Bakery, which has been in business on Tyneside for 56 years, has been looking for premises in the Walker area of Newcastle for some time, and has taken over the former Fairbairn's bakery, in Wellbeck Road.
Company chairman Lloyd Milligan has decided initially to leave the shop in its original livery, but it will eventually be given the company branding.
He said: "Customers have become accustomed to the shop in its existing format, and we have decided not to change too much straight away."
Milligans was set up in 1946 by Mr Milligan's parents and now runs 33 shops throughout Durham, Northumberland and Tyne and Wear.
