CANCER survivors and sufferers got on their bikes to help raise funds for research.
The 300-strong field in the Durham Cycle for Life event included many entrants who have overcome cancer or are fighting the disease.
Everyone who set off from Meadowfield Sports Centre, near Dur-ham, completed the 30-kilometre course, set mainly off-road in the Deerness and Wear valleys.
Among them was Joy Raine, 59, who is undergoing chemotherapy. It was the second of a three-part challenge that Joy and friend Joan Holdsworth, of Durham, have set themselves this year.
They recently completed the Darlington Race for Life and also plan to take part in the Great North Run in October.
Helen Gill, of Cancer Research UK, said the event raised about £20,000, which this year will be channelled towards research into men's cancers.
