Teenager Andrew Wyer volunteered to lose his flowing locks to raise cash for the Blue Cross animal sanctuary in Thirsk.
The deed was done at the Bay Horse pub in Great Smeaton with family friend Sandra Carlton and landlady Barbara Walker carrying out the task, which raised more than £170.
Afterwards Andrew, 16, said: "It was a bit of a shock when I looked in the mirror afterwards," he said. "But from now on I will be keeping my hair short. The days of long hair are now behind me."
