LOVEABLE little mongrel Meg has turned out to be a real star.
A few months ago the four-year-old blind whippet-cross touched the hearts of readers of The Northern Echo who gave an animal charity £800 so that Meg could see again.
Thanks to the skills of vets who used a pioneering lens replacement technique to remove cataracts, Meg's eyes are now good as new and she is living happily in a foster home found for her by the National Animal Sanctuary Support League.
At the weekend she impressed the judges at Ferryhill Gala, who voted her the prettiest bitch in the show.
Pauline Wilson, from the league, said: "I still get letters and calls from people wanting to know how Meg is. They will be delighted to hear she is doing so well.
"It is marvellous. She has turned out to be a fantastic little dog, a real star.
"She really captured people's hearts and it has been a success story from beginning to end."
