TWO men who were found dead at a bedsit in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, at the weekend have been named by police.

Julian Snell, 30, of Franklin Road, and Keith Bracher, 28, who was staying at the same address, were discovered on Saturday afternoon. Police are awaiting the results of toxicology tests to establish causes of death. Drug-related equipment was removed from the scene. GUILTY PLEA: A former holiday hotel manager has pleaded guilty to sex assaults on two 14-year-old girls. Rennie Whiteley, 59, yesterday admitted four charges of indecently assaulting the girls at a house in Spennymoor, County Durham, between May and December last year. Whiteley, of Marwood House, Barnard Castle, County Durham, who formerly ran a hotel in Ibiza, was remanded on bail at Teesside Crown Court until sentencing next month.

BORDER TREK: Ramblers can stride out over moors and through woodland under expert guidance in the Border country on Sunday. The Forestry Commission is staging a seven-hour ranger-led trek, passing the Kielder Stane, a sandstone block above the source of the North Tyne. The walk starts at Kielder Castle Visitor Centre, at 10am. Walking boots and waterproofs are essential. Places can be reserved for £4 by call (01434) 250209.

FOOTBALL ARRESTS: Police made four arrests at the football season's opening day match between Carlisle and Hartlepool at the weekend. Cumbria Police said the arrests were for minor scuffles. A crowd of more than 10,000 watched Hartlepool win 3-1.

MAN SAFE: A man who went missing from his home nearly two weeks ago turned up safe and well yesterday. Thomas Brett Wilkinson, known as Brett, of Evenwood, Teesdale, was found in Darlington, said police, who appealed to readers of The Northern Echo to help find the 41-year-old. A spokesman said: "We had a good response and would like to thank everyone who called in."

SEVENTIES SHOW: Smash hit musical Oh What A Night will be coming to Sunderland's Empire Theatre in October, following a sell-out tour of the country last year. The show contains classic 1970s' hits and Sheila Ferguson, lead vocalist from The Three Degrees, will be joining the cast. The show runs from Tuesday, October 1, to Saturday, October 5.

BATTLES LINED UP: Cannon and musket fire will fill the air over the August bank holiday weekend as battles from the American Civil War are recreated. Tynemouth Priory and Castle, Tyneside, will be the venues for clashes between Confederate and Union troops. Members of the American Civil War Society will give visitors a taste of the 19th Century conflict from noon on Sunday, August 25, and on the bank holiday Monday.
