SUNDERLAND boss Peter Reid looks set to grant restless supporters' wishes by launching an ambitious triple swoop in the transfer market.
Under-fire Reid has approached Scottish giants Rangers over out-of-favour forward Michael Mols and Leicester's young winger Matt Piper looks certain to join within the next 24 hours.
The Black Cats boss is also still trying to push through a £1.5m move for Liverpool full-back Stephen Wright, who is thought to have held talks already.
With just four days to go until Sunderland's Premiership opener with Blackburn at Ewood Park, Reid is desperate to strengthen his squad. And a Rangers spokesman confirmed yesterday that the Wearsiders are expecting Dutchman Mols to hold talks south of the border.
"Michael is visiting Sunderland to see the club and have talks with Peter Reid for the next couple of days," he said.
If the 31-year-old does agree to join Sunderland he looks like joining Piper, who held talks over a £2.5m switch yesterday.
The 20-year-old starred for the Foxes towards the back end of last season, despite their failure to avoid relegation to the Nationwide League. And Leicester's director of football Dave Bassett confirmed Sunderland's interest, he said: "We have been in talks.
"There has been no fee agreed and everybody seems to be jumping around at the moment."
If Reid succeeds in his bid to add all three to his playing staff, it is unclear what effect that will have on his move for Espanyol star Raul Tamudo. Tamudo is due for negotiations this week and, in another development, the £7m-rated Spaniard's arrival could see French misfit Lilian Laslandes go in the opposite direction.
Reid has come under increasing pressure from the Sunderland faithful in recent weeks after failing to land any big name signings.
And his main aim has been trying to find a new striking partner for Kevin Phillips. But the free signings of defender Phil Babb and goalkeeper Thomas Myhre, and young midfielder Sean Thornton remain the Sunderland boss' only summer captures.
* Former Boro midfielder Paul Okon has completed his move to Leeds after passing a medical yesterday.
The 30-year-old agreed a three-year deal at Elland Road on Friday and has now become Terry Venables' second signing following the purchase of Nick Barmby.
