A PIPES and drums band is celebrating receiving a National Lottery grant.
The Newton Aycliffe Royal British Legion Pipes and Drums received £4,710 from the National Lottery's Awards for All programme.
The grant will allow the band to buy uniforms for new musicians and replace some uniforms for existing players.
The band's chairman and treasurer, George Catmull, said: "We are thrilled to get this award. For a group like ours this is a great help towards the huge costs involved in supplying uniforms to members.
"It will improve our appearance dramatically. We have worked very hard to develop this project and to write the application. Now we have got the money it is time for the real work to start."
The band's next performance will be at the Shildon Fun Day, in aid of the Butterwick Hospice, on Sunday
