POLICE across the country carried out a string of dawn raids yesterday as part of an inquiry into an alleged Internet paedophile ring.
Officers from eight forces, including North Yorkshire Police, were involved in an operation aimed at stopping the distribution of child pornography.
A house in York was one of 18 addresses in Britain and Northern Ireland targeted during the 7am raids, which led to eight men being arrested on suspicion of distributing indecent images of children. A 15-year-old boy is also being interviewed by police.
North Yorkshire Police said property, believed to be computer equipment, was seized from the York address but no arrests were made there.
Officers worked with colleagues in Avon and Somerset, Grampian, Greater Manchester, Lincolnshire, Merseyside, London and Northern Ireland.
Superintendent Chris Bradford, of the Metropolitan Police's vice unit, warned paedophiles: "Technology does not make you invisible - we can and will trace and identify you.
