NORTHUMBRIA Tourist Board will be targeting up to 50 travel operators at a series of shows aimed at attracting more visitors to the region.

The series of Group Travel roadshows will begin at Cadbury World in Birmingham on October 8, where operators will be able to get a copy of the newly published Travel Trade Directory 2003.

The shows then continue at the Hilton York in conjunction with the revamped Jorvik Centre on November 4, and the Lowry in Manchester on December 6.

Northumbria Tourist Board group business coordinator Denise Wigham said: "The group travel roadshows are something Northumbria Tourist Board first introduced last year as part of our foot-and-mouth recovery plan.

"This year we will be targeting up to 50 key group travel operators and decision makers at the various shows and we are taking more than 20 exhibitors along with us including hoteliers, destinations, attractions and activities."

The roadshows were launched with the help of Gateshead Borough Council deputy leader Councillor Ian Mearns at the Gateshead Millennium Bridge.
