NURSES have been praised by a health service chief on a visit to the region.
The newly-appointed national director of mental health nursing, Rachel Munton, was in Durham City to meet nurses from County Durham and Darlington Priority Services NHS Trust.
The trust looks after people with mental health problems, learning disabilities and problems with substance misuse.
Ms Munton toured three sites operated by the trust - the £4m Bowes Lyon unit for older people in Durham, the Rushford ward of the County Hospital and the Goodall Centre in Bishop Auckland.
"I have been very impressed with the level of expertise here," she said.
"The commitment of staff has been very evident and the services are tailored to the needs of local service users and local communities."
