THOUSANDS of students are celebrating their A-level results today with a record high in the number of passes.
One in five A-level students has achieved a grade A while the pass rate has soared to more than 94 per cent.
In North Yorkshire, 96 per cent gained a pass with 23 per cent of students scoring grade A figures.
Results overall are about two per cent better than last year and the pattern of entry mirrors the national picture where pupils are taking fewer A-levels but achieving higher grade passes.
Cynthia Welbourn, North Yorkshire's director of education, said: "Bearing in mind the considerable workload on both staff and students these are very pleasing results with North Yorkshire once again exceeding the national averages.
My congratulations to everyone concerned."
