LOUISE Wood was happy to help out as a volunteer charity collector when asked by a friend - but little did she realise she would go on to become one of the longest-serving fundraisers in the country.
The 87-year-old, from Normanby, near Kirkbymoorside, North Yorkshire, first became a Poppy Appeal collector for the Royal British Legion (RBL) in 1933.
Now, 69 years later, she has been presented with an award by the charity for her dedication and loyalty.
"I was asked to do it by a friend and it just went on from there," said Miss Wood. "Everyone knows it's a good cause and they like to give. The work mainly involves going around the area in all weathers, knocking on people's doors and collecting money. It is hard work, but it's all been worth it."
Miss Wood was presented with a Poppy Appeal award by Colin Northridge MBE, County Field Officer for the North and East Yorkshire branch of the RBL.
"This is certainly the longest service any of our collectors has given in this area since the appeal was set up in 1921," said Mr Northridge.
"We are extremely grateful for the help our collectors give us. They are our main source of income."
