CHESTER-LE-STREET councillors have approved plans to convert derelict farm buildings at Urpeth Forge, near Urpeth, Stanley into boarding kennels and a cattery with accomodation for about 40 animals.
Durham County Council's archaeology department said Urpeth Forge is of interest as an industrial monument and discussions are taking place with Urpeth Farms Ltd to assess how the plans would affect its archaeological value.
