THE days when steam was the main form of transport will be remembered in an art exhibition next month.
Steam enthusiast and artist Les Joss, former acting head of Wellfield Comprehensive, in east Durham, will be displaying his work at the dli, formerly the DLI Museum and Durham Art Gallery, at Aykley Heads in Durham.
The exhibition, called Days of Steam, will feature drawings and paintings of steam-driven transport, mainly focusing on railway locomotives from the 1950s and 1960s.
Pictures range from an acrylic painting of Wingfield Castle, the Humber ferry paddle steamer, to a pencil drawing of a British Railways 9F locomotive hauling iron ore to Consett.
The exhibition, in the print room, will open on Tuesday, September 17, and run for three weeks.
