AN ACTION-PACKED weekend of activities is being lined up for an annual sports and arts festival.
The festival will take place on Saturday to Monday, August 24 to 26, at Haswell and Haswell Plough, and will include three days of traditional coalfield sports.
The main activities of the weekend will take place on the Sunday at Mazine Terrace in Haswell Plough.
From 2pm until 4.30pm professional banner artist Nicola Balfour will be on hand to work with children on the creation of banners to form part of a ceremony at 4.30pm, next to the memorial for the miners lost in the 1844 pit disaster.
The ceremony will include brass band music by the GT Group Peterlee Band and a few words from actor/comedian Mike Elliott.
On Monday, August 26 the East Durham Drive and Ride Show will be staged behind the Plough public house in Front Street, Haswell, and will include riding, driving and jumping classes for riders of all stages.

During the three days the Wayfarer in Front Street will host the eleventh annualHaswell Do, which includes full days of folk singarounds.
