CIU League: Crook Belle Vue came through a tough home fixture against Ferryhill to win by three points and stay at the top of the darts section by three points from Cockton Hill, who have played a match extra. Byers Green are in third place, 16 points behind Cockton Hill but with a match in hand.

There were darts maximums from Alan Beck of the Victoria, Tommy Ward and Billy Steele of Cockton Hill and Gary Taylor of Ferryhill. The race for the top Player of the Season was opened out when Doug McCarthy of Crook Belle Vue was beaten for the first time, when Tony Nixon of Ferryhill was his conqueror. This pulls Doug level with Robin Douthwaite of Cockton Hill, who also has only lost once.

Chilton moved up level with Byers Green at the top of the dominoes section after they only dropped one point to the visiting Prospect. These joint leaders hold a three point advantage over Cockton Hill, Middlestone Moor and Willington, who all share the third place.

Cockton Hill lead the pool section by one point but have played one more game than the second placed Ferryhill and the third placed, Crook Belle Vue, who are three points adrift of Ferryhill. In the Individual Player of the Season Steve Wray of Ferryhill leads Pip Samson of Crook Belle Vue by one point.

Willington Summer League

Willington Market made a remarkable come back to beat their hosts at Willington Club in the Final of the Games Cup. The home side raced away to take the first four points and later led 6-1 in a first to nine but the visitors showed remarkable resilience and came back to record a 9-7 victory.

The Club took the two point 1001 up darts team game and then added a dominoes singles through Wilf Cungey and a darts single from Arthur Goldsborough before the Market recorded their first point when Syd Trow and John Blackett won a dominoes doubles.

Steve Hutchinson with a darts singles and Tommy Liddle with a dominoes singles increased the Club's lead but then Gary Trow proved a vital factor for the Market when he won singles at both darts and dominoes.

The Market then closed the gap to one point after Micky Toward, Paul Newton and Syd Trow took a trebles darts point and Paul Newton and Jason Bone added a dominoes doubles point. The Market improved further in the next round of games where Colin Lee and Jason Bone won a darts doubles to level the match and Micky Toward won a dominoes singles to edge the Market into the lead for the first time.

Ian Breen of the Club took a darts singles to level the match again but Jason Bone took a dominoes singles to put the Market one short of victory. The Club needed the final darts point to force a decider but Colin Lee of the Market beat Steve Liddle to complete a brilliant recovery and a 9-7 victory.
