Expectations are high for this Sunday's Big Embassy Pairs Qualifier after the Lower Tees record was smashed not once but twice during a sensational Yarm ACA Open as the river yet again showed its premier league status, writes Jeff Herbert.
The venue was coloured following an extremely wet start to August and almost everyone caught bream - 24 double figured returns.
Marsh Tackle's Peter Hyde raised the new best to 45.14.0 sat two swims above the Levenmouth.
Working groundbait feeder packed with chopped worm and casters across, Peter landed his first skimmer within half an hour. A bad underwater snag in front of him resulted in a step up to 3.2 hook length to a size 14 offering worm on the hook. Back in command Peter landed 20 bream up to 2.8.0 plus quality perch to claim the record for the delighted Leeds angler.
Then runner up Bill Blythe of Newman Scott added 4ozs to the old record heaving out 44.10.0.
On the cabbage patch length upstream of Nellies Beck Bill put in five balls of groundbait at the start over the shelf at 13 metres and located perch and roach. A skimmer boosted things on the hour so a switch to a small groundbait feeder with worm and red maggot inside soon saw the action hot up. From then on 19 bream including fish to 3.8.0 came in succession for yet another big Tees bream net.
