POLICE and language school bosses in Scarborough have launched a video campaign to combat attacks on foreign students.
It follows a number of attacks on students staying in the town to study English, and fears that Scarborough's image is being tarnished as a result of publicity in their home countries.
Now the police, the schools and borough council have produced a 16 minute video called Enjoy Yourselves in Scarborough, narrated by local young actors Jon Lee and Holly Lowe. The video, to be distributed through the town's language schools, will include advice on personal protection and give details of a contact centre.
Sergeant Gary Buchan said: "It's a sad fact, but over the last few years we have had several incidents when overseas students have become the victims of thefts and assaults, and other minor crimes in the town.
"A small minority of locals have singled them out specifically because they are from other countries. This does little for the image of the resort."
