MEMBERS of a tiny community have told of their flooding misery, even though there is no river, stream or beck in their village.
Families in ten houses flooded last week in East Cleveland say at least one of their homes is waterlogged every time there is a sudden downpour because of blocked drains.
Despite Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, firefighters and police attempts to ease the problem in Brotton Road, on the A174 at Carlin How, residents say the problem is worsening. Members of a newly-formed residents' association, called Change, blame Corus, which has a steelworks nearby, for failing to clear a culvert.
Mother-of-two Kay Rowe said: "There's one woman on the road whose house is flooded every time. It is awful for her.
"We have had the fire brigade out and we have had the council out to clear all the drains that are their responsibility. Even the police have got involved, closing the road to stop the waves the cars make lapping into the homes. The community spirit is excellent now but we really need Corus to sort out that culvert."
However, a spokeman for Corus refuted the allegations that work on the culvert at Skinningrove would solve the problem.
He said: "Corus is aware of the situation regarding the culvert at its Skinningrove site.Unblocking this culvert will not resolve the problem; therefore, we have sent alternative proposals to local councillors and Northumbrian Water and we are awaiting their response."
