MORE than 100 energetic people are on their way to completing a 100-mile challenge to boost their health and fitness.
Participants of the Wear Walking for Health Ton Up Challenge aim to walk, jog or run 100 miles around Peases West Athletics Track, in Crook, or designated routes nearby.
So far only one person has completed the target distance. Organisers say Doug Bellis, of Crook, has done especially well to pass the finishing line because he is a recent cardiac rehabilitation patient.
A host of other entrants, aged from two to 79, are expected to complete their 100 miles soon.
There is still time for people living in Wear Valley to enter the challenge, and win certificates, T-shirts, prizes and trophies upon completion.
An achievement award presentation night and buffet will be held soon after September 20 to celebrate individual or family success.
Call Lynn Wilson, the scheme's co-ordinator, on (01388) 765555 to get involved.
