DINOSAURS will invade Europe's largest festival of geology when it opens in North Yorkshire during the bank holiday.
Earth Alert 2002 will be held in Scarborough's Spa Complex between Saturday and Monday and feature major exhibitions from the extractive and petroleum industries and the British Geological Survey.
There will be a fossil roadshow and a Jurassic jungle complete with pop-up dinosaurs to keep the crowds entertained.
More than 50 geology groups, Government agencies and rock, fossil and mineral dealers will be exhibiting and there will be a dinosaur trail and discovery room for young visitors.
During the event there will be a series of lectures on aspects of life on Earth during the dinosaurs' era.
The first Earth Alert took place in Brighton two years ago and attracted thousands of people. Organisers estimate that 8,000 people may flock to this year's event.
The festival will be opened on Saturday at 10am by Lord Derwent and the Mayor of Scarborough, Councillor Sheila Kettlewell.
