A YOUNG cabinet-maker has carved out a name for herself after being crowned North Yorkshire trainee of the year.
Faye Pearson, 20, who works at Treske in Thirsk, received the award from the Guidance Enterprises Group.
Faye is the first female trainee to be hired as a cabinetmaker for Treske, producing handcrafted furniture. She attends day release at Darlington College of Technology
Faye, who lives in Great Broughton, near Middlesbrough, received a cash prize and a framed certificate at a ceremony at the Parsonage Country House Hotel in York.
It was the first annual awards to be hosted by the Pathfinder Careers charity. In the second year of her training she won a regional competition and went on to collect a bronze medal at the SkillBuild finals in Belfast last October.
Faye's programme leader, David Walker, said: "Faye is working in a male dominated industry and is proving to be an outstanding student and employee.
"She has succeeded where so many others would have failed and I think she is an extra special person who deserved to win this award."
Treske managing director Justin Bartlett said: "We are very pleased for Faye. She has worked hard for her success."
